The overall eighth major update for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 fixes two security flaws in the iPhone's operating system, which is why the download and installation of the update is highly recommended for all users of Apple's smartphones and tablets.

One day ahead of Apple's official announcement of the iPhone 13 at the much anticipated California Streaming event, the Cupertino-based company has released the probably last and final version of its iOS 14 mobile operating system. The update carries the version number 14.8 and fixes two more or less small security flaws in the iPhone's software, which is why every iPhone user should consider updating their smartphone as soon as possible.

According to an official document, the update fixes a security flaw in the CoreGraphics framework, which is part of iOS. Before the update, intentionally created malicious PDF files were able to cause unwanted code executions. A similar exploit was found in Apple's WebKit, where malicious web content could cause the same arbitrary code execution. Because these are two fixes that happened behind the scenes, most iPhone users will not necessarily notice them.

Needless to say, the iOS 14.8 update is available for all iPhones that have also received the iOS 14 update. An iPhone 6S (from US$119 on Amazon) or newer is sufficient to receive the latest iOS patch. On the tablet side, an iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 5 or newer is needed to run iPadOS 14.8. The size of the update varies depending on the device, on the iPhone 7 the iOS 14.8 update is a 327MB download.
