40/29'S BRETT RAINS IS LIVE TONIGHT WITH THE LATEST. JOHNATHON MASSEY HAS BEEN IN JAIL SINCE THURSDAY NIGHT WHEN DEPUTIES SAY HE WAS FOUND IN A STOLEN TRUCK. NOW MASSEY IS CHARGED WITH 2 COUNTS OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER. (NATS...MASSEY SAYS "NOTHING") JOHNATHON MASSEY IS CHARGED FOR THE DEATHS OF CARROLL WAYNE ELMORE AND SHARON DIANE BERNARD. THE 19 YEAR OLD IS ALSO CHARGED WITH ARMED ROBBERY, ARSON AND THEFT OF PROPERTY. THURSDAY AFTERNOON, FIREFIGHTERS AND DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO THIS HOUSE FIRE ON CLARKS CHAPEL ROAD IN THE COUNTY. DEPUTIES FOUND 2 BODIES OUTSIDE THE HOME, THAT COULD NOT BE IDENTIFIED DUE TO THEIR CONDITION. ACCORDING TO THE PROBABLE CAUSE AFFIDAVIT, THE HOUSE IS WHERE CARROLL ELMORE LIVED. LATER THURSDAY NIGHT POLICE FOUND MASSEY ABOUT 20 MILES AWAY FROM THE FIRE, IN BOONEVILLE, WITH A TRUCK THEY SAY WAS STOLEN FROM ELMORE. TODAY THE PROSECUTOR DID NOT DISCUSS A POSSIBLE MOTIVE, BUT SAID HE FEELS THERE IS ENOUGH PROOF BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT THAT MASSEY CAUSED THE TWO DEATHS. Johnathan Massey has pleaded guilty to two murder charges in Sebastian County.Massey is accused of killing Carroll Wayne Elmore and Sharon Biane Bernard last year.Massey was sentenced to 70 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. He will be eligible for parole in 49 years, Daniel Shue, Sebastian County prosecuting attorney, told 40/29 News.The bodies of Wayne Elmore and Sharon Diane Bernard were found outside a burning home on Clarks Chapel Road on the afternoon of Jan. 28, 2020.The call initially came in as a house fire. Deputies discovered the bodies when they arrived.Massey was found in a pickup truck in Booneville with blood on his clothes that night, according to Capt. Philip Pevehouse with the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office. The vehicle he was in had been reported missing from the house.As Massey was led into jail in February 2020, he told 40/29's Jamie Weiss he had "nothing" to say about what happened. When Weiss asked him, "Are you sorry?" he answered, "No."Massey pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, arson, and theft of property along with the murder charges.He initially pleaded not guilty but changed his pleas on Sept. 3.
SEBASTIAN COUNTY, Ark. — Johnathan Massey has pleaded guilty to two murder charges in Sebastian County.
