Northeastern Junior College men’s golf team scores first win of season

The Northeastern Junior College men’s golf team continues to have a strong season. They claimed their first win of the season at the Eastern Wyoming College Tournament last week.

The team shot a one day team record score of 285 (-3) and a two day total team score of 577(+1) to land them in first place. The five-member team was: Jackson Rottschafer, Matthew Campbell, Trey Kuntz, Chase Hume and Mason Bernard. Individual players were Mateo Salcido and Alex Tanner.

Leading the team was Rottschafer who shot 69 in the first round of the tournament Thursday, Sept. 9 and 70 the following day for a total score of 139, putting him in second place. Next was Campbell with an overall score of 144, which tied him for sixth place with Johannes Lindstrom of Eastern Wyoming College.

Kuntz shot a 150 to tie for 15th place with NJC’s Salsido and Remington Newell of Eastern Wyoming College; Mason scored 157 to tie him for 24th place with Spencer Wishon of McCook Community College; and Tanner shot a 169, putting him in 36th place in a tie with Nathan Sughroue of McCook Community College.

The women’s team did not finish the tournament, but shot a 691. Annabelle Flores shot a 214 putting her in seventh place, followed by Kylee Monaco with 216 for eighth place and Adiya Robbins, who shot 261 to put her in ninth place.

Both teams will tee off at home this week at the NJC Tournament Thursday starting at 1 p.m. and Friday at 9 a.m.
