Ford Road closed more than six hours after fatal crash in Canton

CANTON, Mich. (WWJ) -- Police are investigating what led to a two-car crash in Canton Monday morning that left a woman dead, a man injured and a major metro Detroit roadway closed for about nine hours.

Police say a 38-year-old Canton woman driving a silver BMW was traveling westbound on Ford Road just before 8 a.m. when her car collided with a red Toyota at the intersection of Ford and Canton Center Road.

The woman’s BMW proceeded to slam into a traffic signal pole. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 46-year-old man from Canton, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Ford Road remained closed for roughly nine hours at Canton Center. The area had been blocked off to traffic while police investigated the crash, but it reopened around 5 p.m.

Authorities say the drivers were the only occupants of both vehicles.
