Max Scherzer named National League Player of the Week

As if his week couldn’t get any better. After a historic Sunday afternoon, Max Scherzer was named the National League’s Player of the Week.

He made two starts for LA this past week, throwing eight scoreless innings in both outings. Scherzer racked up 22 strikeouts and didn’t allow a single walk. In addition, he held opponents to a .127 average and posted a 0.40 FIP. Not too bad if you ask me.

On Sunday, Scherzer reached the 3,000 strikeout milestone for his career, a number only 18 other pitchers have reached in the history of baseball. In addition, he also threw an immaculate inning on Sunday as well. Oh, he also took a perfect game into the eighth inning.

Scherzer reached the 3,000 milestone in his 404^th career game and his 2,516^th inning pitched, both of which are second-fastest in Major League history. Hall of Famer Randy Johnson holds both records.

As if that wasn’t enough, Scherzer became the fourth pitcher in history with 3,000 strikeouts and multiple no-hitters, joining Hall of Famers Nolan Ryan and Johnson, as well as his former teammate Justin Verlander.

Since being acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline, Scherzer has been the best pitcher in all of baseball. LA has won all eight of his starts and he’s posted a 0.88 ERA in 51 innings. His strikeout-to-walk rate is an incredible 72-to-5 and he’s also posted a 1.26 FIP.
