Athletes x Activism: A Virtual Conversation

Athletes x Activism takes place on Sep. 13 at 6 p.m.

On Monday, Sep. 13 at 6:00 p.m., ATL PBA hosted Athletes x Activism, a virtual community conversation moderated by Rose Scott, host of WABE’s “Closer Look.” The panel discussion was centered around the intersection of activism and being a professional athlete.

The event included an exclusive sneak peek at, MUHAMMAD ALI, a new four-part PBS documentary directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns, premiering on Sep. 19 on PBS. The film follows the life of Muhammad Ali, a three-time heavyweight boxing champion who captivated billions of fans and challenged Americans’ racial prejudices, religious biases, and notions about what roles celebrities and athletes play in our society.

The discussion used Ali, a trailblazer in activism, as the starting point, weaving in the personal social justice experiences of our panel of athletes and leaders. The panel features four athletes and leaders from the Atlanta community:

  • Pharlone C. Toussaint, Director of External Affairs at The Center for Healing & Justice Through Sport (CHJS)
  • Terence Moore, Sports Contributor for Forbes, CNN and MSNBC
  • Edwin Moses, Activist and former Olympian
  • Shawn Johnson, Student athlete at Morehouse College
