Festival Verdi Announces Cast Change for ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’

There has been a cast change for the Festival Verdi’s production of “Un Ballo in Maschera.”

The Parma festival announced that soprano Anna Pirozzi would be taking over the role of Amelia for Maria Teresa Leva on Sept. 24, 2021; per a press release, Leva is withdrawing from the performance due to health concerns. Leva is still scheduled to take on subsequent performances on Oct. 1, 8, and 15, 2021.

Pirozzi joins a cast that includes Piero Pretti, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Anna Maria Chiuri, Giuliana Gianfaldoni, and Fabio Previati, among others. Roberto Abbado conducts the production by the late Graham Vick.

Pirozzi is set to sing productions of “Turandot,” at the Bayerische Staatsoper; “Tosca” at the Royal Opera House; “Macbeth” at the Wiener Staatsoper; “Aida” at the Teatro di San Carlo in Napoli; “Ernani” at the Ópera de las Palmas; and “Nabucco” at the Teatro Real de Madrid during the 2021-22 season.
