preview for Ordinary Joe Trailer

What if? It’s an existential question pondered by just about every human on the planet at some point. What if I took that job? What if I married the one that got away? What if I pursued my hobby as a career? As mere mortals, we’re left to wonder IRL, but Ordinary Joe, a new show premiering on NBC in September, is not limited by the constraints of space and time. It not only asks the what-if question, but puts it to the test as the main character lives out three possible paths in parallel timelines.

Ordinary Joe stars James Wolk (Watchmen) as Joe Kimbreau. Joe faces three divergent paths when he graduates from college, and he believes one single choice will seal his fate. For each option, the series takes viewers on a journey with Joe and the people closest to him, showing how life could unfold—with different careers, relationships, and family lives—if he chose each path.

Written by House alums Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner and directed by Adam Davidson, the feel-good show costars Natalie Martinez, Charlie Barnett, Elizabeth Lail, and Adam Rodriguez. It was originally written as a pilot by executive producer Matt Reeves (co-creator of Felicity) for ABC in 2006.

“I still remember when Matt Reeves shared this passion project. Russel and Garrett wrote such a compelling and emotional script that was expertly executed from page to screen,” said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content, entertainment, and streaming at NBCUniversal. “We love how Ordinary Joe lets us experience the universal question of ‘what if’ through an incredible cast of characters and engaging storylines.”
