Although Penn State football continued its strong start to the season with a win over Ball State on Saturday, several former Nittany Lion stars were in action around college football as well.

Will Levis, Kentucky

Quarterback Will Levis followed up his monster debut for Kentucky with a quieter performance against Missouri. He completed a pedestrian 55.6% of his passes for 179 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. Levis added another 25 yards and a touchdown on the ground as Kentucky held on to win 35-28.

Levis will try to keep Kentucky undefeated as the Wildcats host Chattanooga for a noon game next Saturday. 

Justin Shorter, Florida

Wide receiver Justin Shorter hauled in two passes for 23 yards as the Gators handled South Florida 42-20. 

John Petrishen, Pitt

Safety John Petrishen obtained two solo tackles and two assisted tackles, including half of a tackle for a loss, in Pitt’s 41-34 victory over Tennessee. 

Mac Hippenhammer, Miami (Ohio)

Wide receiver Mac Hippenhammer had two receptions for 43 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown, as Miami of Ohio fell to Minnesota 26-31. 

CJ Holmes, Kent State

Defensive back CJ Holmes recorded four solo tackles and an assisted tackle as Kent State cruised by VMI 60-10. Holmes, a redshirt senior, played in a single game for Penn State in 2019.

Zack Kuntz, Old Dominion

Zack Kuntz more than tripled his receiving yards in Old Dominion’s matchup against Hampton University. Kuntz had three receptions for 61 yards in a 47-7 win over Hampton.

Judge Culpepper, Toledo

Former Penn State defensive lineman Judge Culpepper put up four tackles for Toledo in the team’s near-win against Notre Dame this weekend. Toledo ultimately fell to Notre Dame 32-29.
