FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham High golf team will opens its season on Monday, September 13 at Sassamon Trace Golf Course in Natick, against the Wildcats of Milton High, after the first scheduled match of the season was rained out last week.

There are 10 golfers on the varsity team, led by captains Nick D’Costa and Jake Donahue.

D’Costa, Donahue, and Braeden Peterson are the seniors on the 2021 team.

Forty-one golfers tried out for varsity. Flyers will have a varsity and JV team this season, after no season in 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Head coach Peter Eliot said that is the “most I’ve seen in more than ten years with the team.”

“Both Nick and Jake have been with our team since their freshman year. Not only are they talented golfers, but they are also thoughtful leaders, and I and the team are grateful for their leadership,” said Coach Eliot.

“After COVID dramatically changed our 2020 season, I think we’re all grateful to be out on the course again playing competitively,” said Coach Eliot. “As for goals, I’m hoping that each of our golfers sees an improvement in their skills, that we come together as a team and build a culture that values hard work and perseverance while also having fun.”

Coach Eliot said he wanted to “thank Coach Chancey and Coach Jones for their support this season, and I want to thank Coach (Will) Cook for his mentorship and guidance. I also want to acknowledge Al Bogart, a Framingham resident who donated clubs, golf balls, and other golf equipment to support our team in memory of Bill.”

The last match of the season is scheduled for October 7 at Braintree.
