Photo of Joe Biden Posing With Children in Pro-Trump Attire Goes Viral

An image of President Joe Biden posing with children wearing pro-Donald Trump attire has gone viral.

The image was taken on September 11 during the president's visit to the volunteer fire station in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, which responded to the crash of United Flight 93, while he was marking the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The photo, which has been shared thousands of times on social media, shows Biden posing with a number of children, one of whom is wearing a red "Trump" hat while another wears a blue "Make America Great Again" hat.

One boy also posed while wearing a t-shirt with an image of Trump and the words "I'll be back"—an apparent reference to the false claim Trump will somehow be reinstated into the White House because of the debunked assertion that the 2020 election was rigged.

Arizona Senator Wendy Rogers, one of those who has frequently pushed the so-called "big lie" that Trump lost the election because of widespread voter fraud, was one of those who shared the image along with the caption "#TrumpWon."

A number of other right-wing personalities and websites suggested that Biden may have been duped into posing with the children, or that he was unaware that they were wearing pro-Trump clothing.

Biden did make reference to the children while speaking to reporters at the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Company about how he will continue on trying to unite the country and reach out to those who still believe the false claim that the election was rigged.

"I think the real issue for those kids that—just had a picture taken with—couple of them had Trump hats from last year—I think, for them, it's going to be: Are we going to, in the next four, five, six, 10 years, demonstrate that democracies can work, or not?

Biden added: "There's a lot of autocrats who truly believe that democracies can't function in the 21st century. Not a joke.

"They think because the world is changing so rapidly and people are so divided, you can't bring people together in a democracy to get a consensus, and the only ones that are going to be able to succeed are the autocrats.

"That's why it's so damn important we demonstrate—everybody says, 'Biden, why do you keep insisting on trying to bring the country together?' That's the thing that's going to affect our wellbeing more than anything else: how the rest of the world responds to us— knowing that we actually can, in fact, lead by the example of our power again. And I think we can do it. We got to do it."

In a speech at the Flight 93 National Memorial, former president George Bush praised the unity he saw in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks in 2001 as "the America I know."

Bush added: "At a time when religious bigotry might have flowed freely, I saw Americans reject prejudice and embrace people of Muslim faith. That is the nation I know.

"At a time when nativism could have stirred hatred and violence against people perceived as outsiders, I saw Americans reaffirm their welcome to immigrants and refugees. That is the nation I know.

"At a time when some viewed the rising generation as individualistic and decadent, I saw young people embrace an ethic of service and rise to selfless action. That is the nation I know."
