Lara Croft is arguably one of the biggest if not the biggest video game characters to ever cross over to mainstream media and over the last 20 years, the iconic femme fatale has been featured in several film adaptations — most notably Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider film series from the early 2000s as well as her own comic book series. Now, she's set to appear in her first anime series which will be produced by the good folks over at Netflix.

The streaming announced via its Netflix Geeked page that they are working on a Tomb Raider anime with Powerhouse Animation that picks up following the events of Square Enix's video game reboot trilogy. Marvel Cinematic Universe actress Hayley Atwell has been tapped to voice Lara Croft in the project but other than her casting announcement, the specifics of the series are still being kept under wraps as of writing.

Personally speaking, Atwell seems like an odd choice to get cast as Lara Croft but maybe I'm just looking at it from a live-action standpoint. She previously did voice work for What If...? which of course gives her quite the advantage but considering not a lot of fans were that pleased with her voice acting as Captain Carter, it's quite obvious that Hayley needs to do a better job with the upcoming Netflix project. I'm sure she will manage to pull it off but still, I never pictured her as the Lara Croft-type so I'm having second thoughts about it.

No release date has been announced for Netflix's Tomb Raider anime, Meanwhile, Marvel Studios' What If...? is streaming exclusively on Disney+.
