The Premier League returned this weekend following the international break and there were some high quality games, with a host of new signings making their debuts.

Manchester United, inspired by Cristiano Ronaldo's return, beat Newcastle 4-1, while Arsenal finally got off the mark with a 1-0 victory at home to Norwich. 

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, got their first win under Patrick Vieira as they dispatched Tottenham 3-0. 

Here, Sportsmail takes a look at 10 of the biggest talking points from another entertaining weekend's action in the top flight. 

Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes can torment

Manchester United's opponents already had the considerably difficult task of attempting to limit the threat of Bruno Fernandes, but the arrival of his compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo could make Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side almost impossible to defend against at times.

The job was certainly too much for Newcastle, who slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford, with Ronaldo scoring a brace on his return, while Fernandes was also on the scoresheet.

The pair are already accustomed to playing together for Portugal and Fernandes' ability to locate his team-mate with precise passes spells trouble for the rest of the Premier League. 

Ronaldo's movement and appreciation of space is of an extremely high standard, and he can also bring Fernandes, who relishes pushing forward from midfield, into play at key moments.

Devising a way to stop the two Portuguese stars certainly won't be easy and the early signs suggest that United will be prolific this season, with Ronaldo helping to bring the best out of his team-mates.

 

Bernardo Silva can become a key figure again for Manchester City

There were suggestions during the summer that Bernardo Silva could depart Manchester City, but a deal didn't end up happening and that may well provide Pep Guardiola's team with a boost in the long-term.

Silva scored the only goal of the game as Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory away to Leicester to extend their winning run to three games.

Although he still isn't guaranteed a regular starting berth, Silva is certainly capable of making an impact this season, especially given that he can be hugely effective whether deployed in midfield or out wide.

The 27-year-old is known for his technical qualities but also possesses much in the way of determination and has helped City to enjoy much success in recent years.

Towards the end of last season Silva frequently found himself named among the substitutes but he is now making it difficult for Guardiola to leave him out.

 

Gabriel's return can be hugely important for Arsenal

After a shocking start to the season that encompassed three successive defeats, Arsenal got their first league win of the campaign as they beat Norwich 1-0 at home.

While much of the focus at Emirates Stadium was on the new signings, including Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White, the return of a player who joined the club last summer, Gabriel, could also help to push Mikel Arteta's team up the table.

The Brazilian centre-back enjoyed an encouraging start to his Arsenal career before suffering a dip in form but he will hope to truly establish himself during his second season in north London.

An impressive reader of the game, Gabriel is capable of making precisely-timed interceptions and did so one occasion against Norwich when White had been caught out.

Although he is far from the finished article, the 23-year-old certainly seems a significantly better option than Rob Holding or Pablo Mari.

 

Callum Hudson-Odoi is wasted as a wing-back for Chelsea 

Callum Hudson-Odoi ended up staying at Chelsea this summer, but whether that will prove to beneficial for the 20-year-old remains to be seen.

Having been an unused substitute for the first three Premier League games of the season, Hudson-Odoi was finally called into action with a start against Aston Villa at the weekend.

However, as has often been the case under Thomas Tuchel, Hudson-Odoi was deployed for much of the game as a wing-back, a position which certainly doesn't enable him to make the most of his qualities.

At his best Hudson-Odoi is capable of dazzling with his trickery, but using him in this position limits his creativity while also highlighting his defensive flaws.

Getting into the Chelsea team as a winger won't be easy, but if Hudson-Odoi isn't deployed in his best position then it is probably better for him to leave. 

 

Odsonne Edouard could be a star for Crystal Palace 

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira was heavily active in the summer transfer window, and it seems that he saved his best signing for last.

Odsonne Edouard arrived at Palace on transfer deadline day after securing a move from Celtic, and there was much excitement about the signing.

On the initial evidence, the hype could well be justified, with Edouard having made an instant impact on his debut against Tottenham.

With Palace already leading 1-0 courtesy of a penalty from Wilfried Zaha, Edouard entered the fray in the 84th minute and proceeded to score twice to secure victory for his side. 

Surely it won't be too long until the 23-year-old striker starts regularly for Palace. 

 

Leeds' defence remains a major concern 

After four league games this season, Leeds have already conceded 11 times, with Newcastle the only side to have let in more.  

Marcelo Bielsa's side struggled against Liverpool as they faced extremely strong opponents and had to play the last half an hour with 10 men following Pascal Struijk's red card.

However, despite there being some mitigating circumstances, Leeds were far too open even before the sending off, with Bielsa's approach leaving them vulnerable at the back, as was also the case in the 5-1 defeat to Manchester United last month. 

Given that Bielsa is known for sticking to his principles regardless of the circumstances, it is difficult to envisage how Leeds will improve defensively, and that could well prove to be costly at the season progresses. 

After receiving much praise for some of their performances last campaign, Leeds' second season back in the top flight has got off to a terrible start. 

 

Armando Broja's cameo offers encouragement for Southampton 

Southampton drew 0-0 at home to West Ham as they became the first team to stop David Moyes' side scoring in the league this season.

There were also some good signs late on for Southampton, with substitute Armando Broja causing problems for the West Ham defence.

Broja, a 20-year-old prospect on loan from Chelsea, struck the post with one effort before having a shot cleared off the line by Declan Rice.

The youngster scored 10 league goals on loan at Vitesse Arnhem last season and will now be looking to make an impact in the Premier League.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will certainly have been pleased with what he saw from Broja.

 

Brentford need to be more ruthless 

Brentford started the season in superb fashion with a 2-0 win at home to Arsenal, but since then they have found goals rather difficult to come by.

Indeed, Thomas Frank's team have scored just once in their three subsequent league games and fired a blank in their 1-0 defeat against Brighton.

Frank acknowledged after the game that Brentford need to improve in an attacking sense.

Bryan Mbeumo squandered three opportunities to score, while Ivan Toney produced an impressive display but was also unable to find the net.

With some tough fixtures on the horizon, including games against Liverpool and Chelsea, Frank must find the formula to ensure that his team are more clinical.

 

Hwang Hee-chan can ease the burden on Raul Jimenez

It probably would have been unrealistic for Wolves to put too much pressure on Raul Jimenez when the striker has just returned from a fractured skull.

Thankfully, the arrival of Hwang Hee-chan, who has signed on loan from RB Leipzig, could lessen Wolves' reliance on Jimenez for goals.

Although he didn't score in 20 league appearances for RB Leipzig, Hwang wasted no time in opening his account for Wolves, scoring after coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 victory against Watford.

At some stage it is likely that Hwang and Jimenez could be used in the same side, with the South Korea international also capable of operating out wide if required.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage will hope that after his excellent debut in English football, Hwang will be able to frequently make an impact. 

 

Andrew Omobamidele impresses in difficult times for Norwich 

There isn't much for Norwich fans to cheer about at present, with their side languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table as the only team in the division yet to earn a point.

Amid the darkness, however, there is a shining light in the form of Andrew Omobamidele.

The 19-year-old centre-back was given his Premier League debut in the defeat to Arsenal and, despite the result, emerged from the game with credit.

Signed by Norwich in 2019, the prospect recently broke into the Republic of Ireland senior squad.

Even if Norwich are unable to avoid relegation this season, Omobamidele will be determined to demonstrate that he can be a Premier League regular for years to come.
