Nearly two dozen dogs are safe after being rescued from an abandoned property in Pittsburg County Sunday.

The Humane Society of Tulsa says a deputy with the Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office called it one of the worst situations they've seen in 20 years of working.

The Humane Society shared an update on social media with pictures of the conditions and dogs. It said deputies called the Humane Society for help after finding about 20 dogs living in and under a trailer, as well as in outdoor cages on an abandoned property.

The Humane Society said the dogs were scared and attempting to bite, but volunteers still managed to rescue every dog on the property Sunday morning. The post on social media said by the end of the day the dogs started wagging their tails.

Workers have started giving the dogs basic medical care and a veterinarian will check them out this week.

The Humane Society said it could use donations to help care for the dogs and said any donation makes a difference. Donations can be made by Clicking Here.

There's no word on who abandoned the dogs on the property.
