Sunday night's battle between the New York Mets and New York Yankees had all the feels of a postseason game. It also featured two teams desperately trying to hunt down playoff spots with just a couple of weeks left in the regular season.

Francisco Lindor played the role of hero on Sunday for the Mets. He clubbed three home runs, including a game-winning shot in the bottom of the 8th inning to put New York up for good at 7-6. Following his performance and a benches clearing incident earlier in the game between he and Giancarlo Stanton, Lindor reacted via SNY.

ā€œI don't think he was trying to fight. I think he was just telling me like, ā€˜Hey, I can do it to. Let's keep it a little more subtle,' or something like that. That's why I gave him the thumbs-up, and I respect that. Both teams probably misinterpreted it right there. I don't think Stanton was telling me it in a fighting manner. That's not how I do things. I'm not trying to fight nobody and I'm sure Stanton wasn't trying to fight me either.ā€

The win for the Mets was as dramatic as it gets and it was Stanton who came up with two outs in the top of the 9th inning with a chance to tie things for the Yankees or give them the lead. As the Hollywood script would have it, he popped out to Lindor to end the game.

Both the Mets and the Yankees are currently on the outside looking in at a wildcard spot with the Yankees a game behind the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox.
