Skoda is getting ready to launch a new model that has been spotted by our spy photographers testing in the Czech Republic. The B-Segment three-box sedan is expected to bear the Slavia name, sharing the MQB A0 platform with the new Fabia.

According to the latest reports, it will be unveiled before the end of 2021. Despite being set for India, the Slavia is reportedly going to become a global model for Skoda.

The name first appeared on the 2020 Skoda Slavia concept which was a two-seater spider one-off based on the Scala C-Segment hatchback. Unlike the fancy prototype, the production Slavia will be the sedan version of the Fabia with a longer body and a larger boot. VW Group is already offering a very similar model – the VW Virtus, which is the four-door version of the VW Polo.

Despite being tested in Europe, the camouflaged prototype was right-hand drive as the Slavia is destined for the Indian market. Design-wise, the model incorporates Skoda’s latest design language for a tamed look.

The headlights and grille look identical to the Skoda Fabia, but the character lines on the profile and the extended rear end look very similar to the VW Virtus, with which it could share a few body panels. The model is expected to closely match its VW sibling in terms of dimensions with a length of around 4,482 mm (176.5 inches).

The engine range is expected to include the turbocharged 1.0 TSI three-cylinder producing either 94 hp (70 kW / 95 PS) or 109 hp (81 kW / 110 PS), sending the power to the front wheels through a five-speed or six-speed manual gearbox with an optional seven-speed DSG. At the top of the range, there will be the turbocharged 1.5 TSI four-cylinder with 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS), exclusively mated with the DSG.

The Skoda Slavia will replace the aging Indian-spec Rapid which is a different model from the Russian-spec and the China-spec models with the same name. We will have more information on Skoda’s latest sedan as we approach its late-2021 debut.
