“Reunited, and it feels so good” - Peaches and Herb
The 1978 pop hit “Reunited” could serve as the title track for the main storyline this week in Washington following the hip injury to quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The 38-year-old Fitzpatrick went down with what appeared to be a serious hip injury in Sunday’s 20-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. That’s led to speculation Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera could choose to reunite with Cam Newton.
Pro Football Talk reports “Ultimately, it will be coach Ron Rivera’s call as to whether Newton would be pursued.”

The New England Patriots released Newton before the start of the season, turning over the offense to rookie quarterback Mac Jones. Newton joined the Patriots before the 2020 season, replacing Tom Brady who left New England after 20 seasons and six Super Bowl titles to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Newton struggled last year, but it’s worth noting the 32-year-old enjoyed a great deal of success under Rivera on the Carolina Panthers. Newton was the NFL MVP in 2015 and led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50, which they lost to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, 24-10.
Washington doesn’t have much time to make a decision on Newton, since the New York Giants visit FedEx Field this week for Thursday Night Football. Backup Taylor Heinicke came off the bench Sunday to replace Fitzpatrick, throwing for 122 yards and one touchdown.
UPDATE (12:36 p.m.): NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports “Washington Football Team QB Ryan Fitzpatrick did suffer a hip subluxation, the MRI confirmed. He’ll be placed on Injured Reserve, source said, but no indication yet that it’s season ending. ... A serious and scary injury for Ryan Fitzpatrick. It is Taylor Heinicke going forward for the next several weeks at the very least, with Kyle Allen as the backup.” Read more about that here.
