Trib Total Media TV writer Rob Owen offers a viewing tip for the coming week.

Already “Dr. Oz” has moved over from WTAE-TV to 10 a.m. weekdays on WPGH-TV, but perhaps the most noteworthy syndicated debut of the Fall 2021 season is “You Bet Your Life” (6 and 6:30 p.m. starting Monday on Channel 53).

A revival of the original 1950-61 comedy game show first hosted on TV by Groucho Marx, “You Bet Your Life” was previously revived in 1980 (Buddy Hackett hosted) and in 1992 (Bill Cosby hosted). This latest iteration finds Jay Leno in the host chair and he’s brought along some familiar elements from his stint as star of NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” including Kevin Eubanks as Leno’s sidekick and bits including “Headlines” and a two-and-a-half-minute monologue by Leno at the start of each “You Bet Your Life” episode.

In an interview late last month, Leno said his version of “You Bet Your Life” has a vibe similar to his “Tonight Show” segment “Jaywalking.”

“I’ve been offered other game shows, but it’s usually like, ‘Uzbekistan has a population of how many people?’ That’s not really a funny joke,” he said. “And this was the closest thing to ‘Jaywalking.’ ”

Leno said he sold “You Bet Your Life” to stations on a promise that it’s a comedy show with no political jokes.

“When you don’t discuss politics, you realize how much you have in common with people, even people you would normally think you would not have anything in common with,” said Leno, who notes the top prize per episode is $5,000. Use of the “secret word” of the day offers contestants a chance to win an additional $500.

Contestants, often from different walks of life, come onstage and compete as a team.

The 71-year-old Leno, who also has his CNBC series “Jay Leno’s Garage” returning for a new season at 10 p.m. Sept. 22, said he’s proud of “You Bet Your Life.”

“A lot of times, you do shows and you go, ‘Oh, nobody watches this thing,’ but that’s not the case here. I think it’ll do well,” Leno said, noting the show will air in many markets between 5 and 7 p.m. “So people watch the depressing local news, and then here’s some uplifting, fun thing.”

Other WPGH changes include “Storage Wars” at 3 a.m., and this week “Big Bang Theory” reruns shift to one run per evening at 7 p.m. (a second episode airs at 12 a.m. beginning Sept. 27) with reruns of “Young Sheldon” at 7:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. beginning Sept. 27.

This week, “Judge Jerry” moves to 1 and 1:30 p.m. on Channel 53 with a “Jerry Springer Show” rerun at 3 p.m.

“Masked Singer” host Nick Cannon takes on double duty this fall as he’ll also host his own eponymous talk show. “Nick Cannon,” airing at 2 p.m. weekdays beginning Sept. 27, promises an hour of comedy-driven conversation about pop culture, celebrity interviews and music performances.

Overnight changes that take effect Sept. 27 include “Bob’s Burgers” reruns at 3:30 a.m., “The Goldbergs” reruns at 4 a.m. and “Black-ish” reruns at 4:30 a.m.

Channel 19 will make some schedule adjustments this week with “Family Feud” replacing “Mom” at 5:30 p.m. weeknights. “Mike & Molly” reruns take over for “Two Broke Girls” at 6:30 p.m. weekdays.

In late-night, this week “Two Broke Girls” replaces “Friends” at 11 p.m., and “Mom” reruns replace “Mike & Molly” at 12 a.m.

This week, “Friends” reruns move to 12 p.m. weekdays with the exception of Tuesdays this fall, when Mike Tomlin’s weekly Steelers press conference will air live from 12-1 p.m.

On weekends, reruns of the “MacGyver” reboot air at 4 p.m. Saturday, followed by “SEAL team” at 5 p.m. and “S.W.A.T.” at 6 p.m. beginning Sept. 18. “Bull” reruns air at 11 p.m. Sunday, beginning Sept. 19, followed at 12 a.m. by “S.W.A.T.” reruns.

Reruns of “Black-ish” and “The Goldbergs” relocate to overnights on WPGH. “The Simpsons” leaves the station altogether.
