Shane Bieber gets a rehab date with Columbus | cleveland.com

From Joe Noga:

Indians ace Shane Bieber will make a rehab appearance Tuesday in Toledo for Triple-A Columbus, pitching 2-3 innings for the Clippers in his first game action since mid-June.

Bieber, sidelined for nearly three months with a strained subscapularis muscle in his right shoulder, will be limited to 40-45 pitches per Cleveland’s president of baseball operations, Chris Antonetti. The 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner remains on track to pitch in a major league game before the end of this season, barring any setbacks.

Just as starter Aaron Civale returned last week from a sprianed finger that kept him out several months, Antonetti said there’s a mental component to Bieber returning before season’s end to benefit his offseason preparation.

“We think that would be ideal,” Antonetti said. “We wanted to make sure that we were always prioritizing their health and well-being. So if it didn’t make sense for them to come back, we certainly didn’t want to rush things.”
