Keeping with the theme of ridiculousness that encapsulated Saturday night’s event in Hollywood, Florida, Vitor Belfort called out boxing’s biggest star after defeating a 58-year-old former heavyweight champion who hadn’t boxed in 10 years.

The 44-year-old Belfort, who has just two professional boxing matches on his record, challenged Canelo Alvarez to a 185-pound fight in which the winner would be paid $30 million, presumably in a winner-take-all scenario. Alvarez, 31, is a four-division champion who is widely viewed among experts as the best boxer, pound-for-pound, in the sport.

“He will not fight me at 185, I promise you,” Belfort told Triller Fight Club’s Ashley Haas during his post-fight interview Saturday night. “He will not have the balls to come, I promise you. If he does, we got $30 million.”

Mexico’s Alvarez has never boxed above the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds and currently competes within the 168-pound division. There also would be little to gain for Alvarez to even entertain the idea of boxing Brazil’s Belfort, who would be a gargantuan underdog versus Alvarez.

The Guadalajara native already will be paid significantly more than $30 million for his upcoming super middleweight title unification fight against Caleb Plant. Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) and Plant (21-0, 12 KOs), of Ashland City, Tennessee, will fight for Alvarez’s WBA, WBC and WBO 168-pound championships and Plant’s IBF belt November 6 in a pay-per-view main event in Las Vegas.

If Alvarez – much younger and fresher, and markedly more experienced in boxing – beat Belfort, he wouldn’t receive any credit for it because Belfort is a retired mixed martial artist who has beaten an embarrassingly faded Evander Holyfield and someone named Josemario Neves in his brief boxing career.

Before he was asked about battling Alvarez, Belfort called out social media superstar Jake Paul, a boxing novice who would be a much more reasonable opponent for him than Alvarez. Belfort and Triller executives Ryan Kavanaugh and Bobby Sarnevesht presented a $30 million, winner-take-all offer for Paul to box Belfort on November 27, the Saturday after Thanksgiving Day (https://www.boxingscene.com/vitor-belfort-triller-execs-call-out-jake-paul-30m-winner-take-all-fight-november--160517).

Belfort also expressed interest in opposing other boxers now that he has beaten an aged Holyfield, whose licensure for even an exhibition drew intense criticism.

“It’s time for boxers to let the clinch – if I can grab you, if I can get a hold of you boxers, you watch,” Belfort said. “You watch what’s happen.”
