NY Mets' Francisco Lindor appears to whistle toward Yankees players during home run trot

NEW YORK — As Francisco Lindor rounded the bases after hitting his second home run of Sunday night's Subway Series game, he appeared to whistle — with his hand to his mouth — toward the Yankees' infielders.

There's a juicy backstory to this.

ESPN's Marly Rivera, a writer and broadcaster, tweeted after the home run that the Mets' Jonathan Villar told her he called a mound visit during the second inning of Saturday's game because he believed he heard whistling coming from the Yankees' dugout.

FINAL WORD:Francisco Lindor has last laugh with 3 home runs vs. Yankees in heated Subway Series game

The Yankees had just taken a 5-0 lead on Mets starter Taijuan Walker, and Villar thought the whistling might've been the Yankees' way of letting their hitters know what pitch was coming from Walker, who might have been tipping his pitches.

An inning later, the Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton blasted a two-run homer to tie the game at 6-6, and started jawing at Lindor as he rounded the bases. Players from both teams came onto the field at that point, but order was restored quickly.

This weekend, the Mets and Yankees have played emotional games. The rivalry has been heated.

Now it has another element as the Mets' $341 million shortstop took a shot at the club's rivals after blasting his second homer of the night, which gave the Mets a 6-4 lead in the sixth inning.
