Daniil Medvedev dominated the US Open final against Novak Djokovic, and in a fitting manner, he had a legendary celebration to commemorate his remarkable performance.

Medvedev beat Djokovic in straight sets, each ending in 6-4. While the Serbian juggernaut was determined to win the US Open title and complete the first calendar Grand Slam in men's tennis since 1969, the Russian baseliner didn't give him an opportunity at all.

The current ATP world no. 2 delivered 16 service aces to destroy Djokovic. He also forced his veteran opponent and the men's top tennis player to commit 38 unforced errors, thanks to his brilliant return game.

As he won his first major title, though, Medvedev celebrated in style with a video game gesture that FIFA gamers will instantly get:

In his post-game interview, Daniil Medvedev explained–though rather vaguely–what he was referencing in his celebration.

“Only legends will understand what I did after the match is L2 + Left. Thank you guys,” the new US Open champ shared.

To clarify, as Kotaku explained, Medvedev did the so-called “Dead Fish” celebration popular in the FIFA series. In the said game, players can choose a special celebration by pressing certain buttons.

In this case, the “Dead Fish” can be done by, yes, pressing L2 and the left button on the right thumbstick.

That's a true gamer right there!

Of course the celebration is quite different in the game, but we have to give credit to the US Open champ for the rather humorous reference. Also, who wouldn't love the fact that he even put his tongue out to get as close as to the in-game gesture?
