The Mac Jones versus Tua Tagovailoa show, or as NFL fans would call it the Miami Dolphins against the New England Patriots, lived up to its hype. Both Jones and Tagovailoa played well, with Tua coming out on top, 17-16. Tagovailoa threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns; one passing and one rushing.

His first touchdown pass of the season went to former Alabama teammate Jaylen Waddle, who also had an impressive debut. Jones would throw for 281 yards and one touchdown, which was his first as an NFL quarterback, but unlike most rookies who score their first touchdown as a pro, Jones did something that even Nick Saban would be proud of; he didn’t accept the ball.

His reason was very simple: it didn’t matter to him.

“Because it doesn’t really matter. It was one TD, we gotta score more. It’s not like the game was over right there….”

And Jones is right, despite his impressive play, the Patriots still lost the game in the final minutes because of former Alabama running back Damian Harris, who fumbled at the end of the game.

The Pats and Dolphins won’t face each other again until the end of the regular season, so round one goes to Tua.
