Two fatalities in separate Anderson County collisions

Two separate crashes in Anderson County resulted in the deaths of two people Saturday.

The first crash involved two motorcycles and left one person dead. The crash happened on SC Highway 252 and the SC-20 Connector, Saturday Afternoon just after 3 PM.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol, says Joseph Alewine and another rider were traveling east on Hwy 252. According to the incident report, Alewine slowed down for traffic and was hit from the rear by the other motorcycle.

The other rider was ejected on impact and died in the collision. The Highway Patrol says he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The identity of the person killed in the collision has not been released as of the time of this report. The collision remains under investigation.

The second collision occurred Saturday afternoon around 4:15PM on I-85 northbound.​

The driver of 2008 Kia SUV and a 2013 Nissan 370Z were both traveling north bound on the interstate when the driver of the Nissan struck the Kia in the rear. The impact of the collision caused the Kia to run off the right side of the interstate and strike a highway sign.

The driver of the Kia died at the scene.  Two passengers in the Kia suffered life threatening injuries and were airlifted to a hospital. All three occupants of the Kia were wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the Nissan was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

This collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
