Rowdy Tellez injured his knee Saturday night after rounding third base.

The Brewers placed first baseman Rowdy Tellez on the 10-day injured list with a patella strain in his right knee. To replace him on the roster, they recalled catcher Luke Maile, who had been optioned Friday to Class AAA Nashville but never left the team.

An MRI performed on Tellez's knee confirmed the patella strain and it's possible he could miss the rest of the regular season, or come close.

"I think we’re looking at a minimum of two weeks here before we see him on the field," Counsell said. "It could be longer. But you won’t see him for two weeks. Then we’ll kind of see where we’re at, at that point."

Acquired on July 6 in a trade with Toronto while Daniel Vogelbach was on the IL with a hamstring strain, Tellez had captured the majority of the playing time at first base. In 54 games with the Brewers, he was batting .270 with seven home runs, 27 RBI and .803 OPS.

Tellez's knee had been bothering him for some time but he aggravated it running the bases in the game Saturday night. He rounded third base on a single by Lorenzo Cain in the second inning and was stopped by coach Jason Lane, prompting him to scramble back to the bag, tweaking his knee in the process.
