2022 Chevrolet Silverado Reveal: New ZR2, Tech, Upgrades And More

The Chevrolet Silverado is the second most popular vehicle in America.  Last year, only the Ford F-150 outsold it.  And that’s saying a ton because Chevy’s parent, General Motors, hamstrings some Silverado sales by also offering the GMC Sierra.

Now Chevrolet is adding to the arsenal with a new trim level, new features, and more technology.  The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado reveal features a ZR2 package that promises better off-road capability.

Also, a brand new premium interior is now standard in all trucks at the LT trim level and above.  Chevy is installing a giant infotainment system and offering even more towing capacity too.

So, let’s dig into all the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado has to offer.

2022 Chevy Silverado High Country

Chevy Reveals A Silverado ZR2

After the success of its sibling, the Chevy Colorado ZR2, the Silverado ZR2 takes things a step further.  The serious off-road tech starts with 33-inch mud-terrain tires, a skid plate, and an off-road-tuned chassis.

Plus, it continues with special 40mm “Multi-Matic” DSSV Spool-Valve dampers that contain three separate chambers to improve damping.   And combining those dampers with special off-road springs allows the ZR2 to have even more suspension travel. Every ZR2 gets a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

A More Luxurious Chevy Silverado

One important fact we learned at the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado Reveal is that all trim levels above LT will get a new premium interior.

Additionally it features a new 13.4-inch infotainment system and a 12.3-inch driver information display.  Chevy says that the entire interior is more driver-focused.  Attributing that to a bit of Corvette in its DNA.

Plus, buyers who go for the High Country trim will be especially happy.  It gets authentic open-pore wood trim, perforated leather, and stainless steel speaker grilles.

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado Gets New Tech

Chevy is adding a larger two larger screens with more integrated features.  Both screens are fully configurable.  Chevrolet also offers two more displays.  Those come in the form of a digital rearview mirror and a heads-up display on the new Silverado.

And this truck is smarter too with Google.  Because it’s not your standard Android Auto either.  Google built-in means the truck itself is equipped with Google tools.  Passengers can simply say “Hey Google” or activate assistant through a button on the steering wheel.

The Chevy Silverado also gets Super Cruise.  Super Cruise isn’t your standard self-driving tech.  It’s actually hands-free.

So the truck keeps track of driver attention and attentiveness.  And if it notices a problem it will require intervention.  Aside from such situations it mostly drives on its own.

In fact, this is the first Chevrolet truck to be equipped with the system.

Engine Refinements Add Utility

Two engines get big upgrades for 2022.  The first is the base 2.7-liter four-cylinder unit.  It gets stronger components including a 30% stronger crankshaft.  These improvements result in more than a 20% increase in torque.  It now maxes out at 420 lb-ft and offers a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds.

The second engine to get a boost is the 3.0-liter diesel.  When equipped with two-wheel drive it can offer up to 13,300 pounds of towing capacity.  That’s one seriously torquey truck.

I love cars. All types of them. From antiques to hypercars and everything in between. There are countless guys/gals who know more about cars than me. And I love learning from them. But ever since I could remember. I wanted to drive. The feelings of control and freedom. To me, that's living. That's life. That's America!
