At the start of the season, right-back was considered to be one of areas Celtic were weak in. Since then though, the position has emerged as one of their biggest strengths. One of the biggest reasons for that has been the brilliant form of Anthony Ralston.

The 22-year-old’s performances have been absolutely superb this season and he has been one of the standout performers for the Hoops. And while the club have signed Croatian international, Josip Juranovic, as well, Ralston is expected to remain a big part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans moving forward.

Thus, him being unavailable recently due to medical reasons must have been a worry for Celtic. The right-back was not included in the squad in their 3-0 win over Ross County in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

But it looks like the Hoops have been handed a massive boost surrounding Ralston. As reported by The Scottish Sun, Postecoglou said regarding the situation:

"“Tony’s good, he’ll be available for Thursday.“He’s been back in training for the last couple of days and will be ready to go.”"

Ralston’s return would be a massive boost for Celtic

At this point of time, it looks like both Ralston and Juranovic are going to compete for the right-back spot in Postecoglou’s team.

Juranovic certainly has experience and pedigree on his side, but on current form, it will be very difficult to drop Ralston as well. Thus, things could get very interesting surrounding the right-back position.

Of course, considering the number of matches that Celtic will have to play throughout the course of the season, it is very possible that Postecoglou could decide to rotate the two often with both of them getting enough playing time.

Whatever may be the case, overall this type of competition for a starting position is great news for the club as it could lead to both the players raising their respective games.

Celtic are set to face Real Betis on Thursday in the opening match of their Europa League group stage campaign.
