It's early in his Detroit Lions career, but Jared Goff made a crucial error during Sunday's week 1 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers that should help the Los Angeles Rams justify their decision to trade him last offseason. The newly minted Lions quarterback threw a pick-6 directly into the hands of 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw, proceeded to run the ball in for a 39-yard touchdown with just under a minute to go in the first half.

The interception gave the 49ers a 28-10 lead over the Lions, which they extended to 31-10 after placekicker Robbie Gould completed a 40-yard field goal to end the half.

As of writing this, Goff is 15/22 for 92 yards, including one touchdown and the aforementioned interception.

The Rams sent Goff along with two first-round picks and a third-round pick to Detroit in exchange for veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. The Rams have yet to play their week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears, so it's impossible to say whether they made the right choice in trading away Goff, and a one-game sample size is too small to judge either player's performance with their new team. Regardless, the 26-year-old's egregious error isn't exactly the best way to start off his Lions career.
