Oregon notched one of the biggest wins of the early college football season taking down Ohio State in Columbus, and now the Ducks are up in the top 10 of the new college football rankings, checking in at No. 4 in the updated AP Top 25 after the win.
The Ducks jumped in front during the first half and never trailed as the Oregon defense held off a flurry of late offense from C.J. Stroud and Ohio State to secure the 35-28 win. With a quality road win against a top team, Oregon has leveled up from being a College Football Playoff hopeful to College Football Playoff contender.
Ohio State fell six spots to No. 9 after the defeat, just ahead of Penn State at No. 10 and behind Cincinnati at No. 8. The Buckeyes' drop allowed for Oklahoma to move from No. 4 to No. 3, while the Ducks checked in at No. 4 and Iowa made a big move up to No. 5 after beating Iowa State, which fell from No. 10 to No. 14 after the loss.
Further down in the rankings saw spots open up after Week 2 losses led to No. 14 USC, No. 15 Texas and No. 21 Utah all falling from the top 25. No. 16 Arkansas is in the poll for the first time since 2016, and is joined by other newcomers No. 23 BYU and No. 25 Michigan.
