Alabama football NFL connection clicks with Jalen Hurts to DeVonta Smit and Tua to Waddle TD passes

Former Alabama football wideout DeVonta Smith wasted no time in getting his first NFL touchdown, scoring on his first NFL catch. Jalen Hurts, a former Alabama quarterback, and Smith connected on an 18-yard pass to cap off the Philadelphia Eagle's first drive against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Smith ran a fade towards the end zone while tight end Zach Ertz cut off the defender and Hurts delivered the ball to Smith. 

Later in the day, former Alabama teammates Tua Tagovailoa and Jaylen Waddle connected for their own touchdown. The 3-yard score was Waddle's first NFL touchdown. Waddle caught the ball and made a diving stretch to get across the goal line. 

The pass was not the first touchdown between the two as they connected on a game-winner against Mississippi State in 2017.

Hurts and Smith played together on the 2017 national championship team. Smith made a name for himself catching the game-winning touchdown pass from Tua Tagovalioa in overtime against Georgia in the title game. They played together next year on the 2018 SEC championship team. 

Jalen was picked in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft while Smith was the 10th overall by the Eagles in the 2021 draft. 

Tagovailoa and Waddle were Alabama teammates at Alabama from 2017-2020 with Tua becoming the first fifth overall pick in 2020 and Waddle was the sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft.
