10-man Leeds United were well-beaten by Liverpool in a 3-0 defeat at Elland Road.

Leeds had the first chance of the game and should’ve taken the lead within five minutes. Raphinha latched onto an excellent long ball before driving forward and squaring it to Rodrigo. He was 15-yards from goal and completely open, but couldn’t find the right contact to beat Allison in goal.

Liverpool took the lead on 20 minutes as a recycled attack made its way to Alexander-Arnold on the right who controlled well and drilled a cross into Salah in the six-yard box, who opened his body well to place the ball into the net.

From there, it was chance after chance for Liverpool who should’ve been further ahead come half-time. But it only took them five minutes into the second half to double their lead as Van Dijk headed a corner-kick down toward Fabinho. Bamford blocked the first effort but couldn’t stop the second from being scrambled in by the Brazilian.

Pascal Struijk was then sent off for Leeds following a challenge on Harvey Elliot which ensued worrying scenes of a potentially big injury - at the time of writing replays are not available, though comments from media personnel say that it didn’t look like a red card offence, and the severity of the injury is what warranted the red card in the eyes of the officials.

Leeds kept pushing dispute their position - ultimately leaving room behind them. It took a while, but Liverpool grabbed their third in added time as Mane finished a strong counter for the Reds to come away with all three points.

All in all, it’s been a poor start for Leeds, who are yet to have a settled back-line in the first four games, and it looks like these difficulties will continue. Llorente injured and Struijk suspended in this game, while Robin Koch is unavailable due to injury. The next game on Friday night is absolutely massive - and your support will be so important.
