The dream finish for McLaren has become reality. Daniel Ricciardo wins the Italian Grand Prix, with Lando Norris right behind him on the Formula 1 podium.

Daniel Ricciardo took control of the race and never looked back. His first-place finish was aided by the fact that Formula 1's top two drivers, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, knocked themselves out of contention after a collision on Lap 26. But McLaren will take the win any way they can.

Ricciardo was his typically jovial self after the race, but you could tell this one meant a little bit extra for him. The usually chatty Danny Ric couldn't even muster up the words to describe the win.

Via Daniel Harris of The Guardian:

“Can I swear?” asks Ricciardo after winning his eight Formula 1 race.“No” comes back the answer. “It’s about … time, he says, using hands to indicate the profanity he’d like to deploy. On Friday, he knew something special was afoot, and he’s been “a sandbagging SOB all year” not challenging for races, so is especially happy to win, to lead from start to finish, and get the one-two. “For once, I’m lost for words.”

The question during the race was whether Lando Norris would vie for the top spot. But he eventually went with what was best for the team, as they gained a massive points boost to place them firmly at 3rd place on the Formula 1 Constructor standings.

“We’ve had a pretty awesome weekend,” he says, and when he joined they were working towards this. He wanted to go for first, but is here for the long-term and for the team – “it could’ve ended up like the other two,” he says. “I’ll get my chance in the future.”

The Top 2 finish from McLaren marks the first time this Formula 1 season that one team secured both top spots in a race. It's a true testament to how competitive it's been throughout the grid this year.
