Manchester City Women welcome Spurs Women to the Academy Stadium this evening as the blues look to put their Champions League disappointment behind them and focus on domestic titles.

City thrashed Everton at Goodison Prk on the opening weekend, but crashed out of the Champions League in midweek as Real Madrid secured their place in the group stage, winning 1-0 on Wednesday.

The blues will now look to focus on claiming a second WSL title, and Spurs will be in the sights of the blue girls as they aim to build on that win on Merseyside.

Spurs beat Birmingham 1-0 on the opening weekend, with a goal five minutes before half time from Kit Graham, and the London club will hoping to fare a little better in the league this season.

The visitors finished 8th in the league last season, but only managed to score 18 goals from 22 matches, and when compared against the blues, who scored the same number in their 3 league games in January alone, it is clear the Londoners have some work to do if they are to achieve more than just making up the numbers.

Team News

Swedish internation Filippa Angeldahl is now available for selection after her international clearance was finally confirmed and could make her debut for the blues. Allana Kennedy could also be in contention for her first start of the season.

However, goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck and midfielder Keira Walsh are still out with a calf injury, while Lucy Bronze and Chloe Kelly are still out injured. Both are continuing their recovery from injury, with the latter out until at least the new year.

But in good news for City, Ellen White and Georgia Stanway are available for selection.

What Happened Last Time?

City hosted Spurs in October 2020 and the blues made light work of their opponents. Chloe Kelly gave City the lead in 33rd minute, then added a 51st minute penalty to make it 2-0. American star Sam Mewis scored two minutes later, before Ellen White made it 4-0 on 68 minutes. Anna Filby scored a consolation for the visitors with ten minutes left as teh bleus ran out 4-1 winners.

Predicition

City will be still be smarting from their defeat to Real Madrid, and will be determined to get a result from today’s game. They should get it against Spurs and I’m going for a comfortable win.
