Robert Saleh can't wait to see a leaner Quinnen Williams in action

Quinnen Williams missed a lot of time this spring and summer due to offseason foot surgery, but Robert Saleh believes the Jets star defensive tackle came back stronger and leaner heading into the regular season.

“He is in fantastic shape,” Saleh said Friday. “He looks awesome out there and he cannot wait to get game action. We’re really excited to see him play.”

Saleh said that Williams lost 10 pounds of body fat while bulking up his muscle mass. Williams corrected his coach on Twitter, though, and pointed out that he actually lost 16 pounds.

Williams will be the Jets’ most important defensive lineman after Carl Lawson ruptured his Achilles. The Jets expect the third-year defensive tackle to take another step forward in his development after he tallied seven sacks and 14 quarterback hits during his sophomore season.
