English Dub Review: Shadows House “For the Sake of the Shadows Family”

Overview:

Edward springs his trap but with the help of John and a tiny shadow they escape to the roof. Kate uses her wings to escape with John’s help. Unfortunately, Edward follows them with a giant soot bird, but also unfortunate for Edward the star bearers are there to help and turn him in. Edward was almost banished but Lord Grandfather lightened his sentence. More children are being chosen to be dolls and everyone seems to be going about their life.

Our Take:

I was fully prepared to take a whole point or so off of this episode. If you have read my reviews enough you know I HATE getting a second season tease with no confirmation insight. Luckily as of today, the second season of Shadows House was announced so I am fully on board with all the teases at the end of this episode.

As for this episode, all of the conflicts get wrapped up pretty quickly. While that is on the anticlimactic side it was really satisfying to see Edward fail so hard. My only problem is I think he got off too light. I wish he would have actually got banished, he could have still been an antagonist down the road but more from the outside. I have no idea where the story will go from here so I am sure it will still be great this way.

The voice cast in this was really awesome and I will definitely be giving a lot of thoughts in my season review. With everyone essentially having double duty it’s even more impressive. I really liked Emi Lo’s performance as Kate. It is my first experience with her as a voice actress and I was blown away.

I am so glad that the second season of this was announced because the worldbuilding is phenomenal and one season just isn’t enough. There are still so many questions and hopefully, the second season answers some of them. One thing I discovered was that the last few episodes of this season were anime original with input from the manga’s author. I thought that was really cool and you don’t see it that often.

I am really excited to give all my thoughts on Shadows House in the season review. It was a really fun and unexpected ride. The writing was really good but what was even better were the characters. This show has some great characters and I really recommend giving it a watch. I’ll see you all in the season review!
