Portland (WGME) -- The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office held a remembrance ceremony to honor those lives lost on September 11th 2001.
Sheriff Kevin Joyce shared his remarks today along with David Watson a retired secret service agent who accompanied President George W Bush to Ground Zero on September 14th, 2001 just three days after the attacks.
"I went to a TV screen in our building and I looked up and I was there with a couple of other people and we saw the second plane hit and then it really sunk in what was going on that day," says Watson.
Sheriff Joyce says in the midst of the tragedy there were also signs of hope.
"The best of who we were and the best of who we are was demonstrated that day and the days and months there after," says Sheriff Joyce.
The ceremony was held at the sheriff's office 9/11 memorial.
