Danny Duffy likely would not get to pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season after all. According to Dave Roberts, the team is shutting down the southpaw for the remainder of the 2021 season, as Duffy continues to struggle recovering from an upper-body injury, per Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

“So it doesn’t look great. Outside of any type of miracle, for him to impact us this year, it’s going to be tough,” Roberts said on the elbow injury of Duffy.

Danny Duffy has not toed the rubber since July 16, back when he was still with the Kansas City Royals. Acquired by the Dodgers just before the trade deadline, the team initially thought that he'd be ready at one pitch sometime in August. That obviously did not turn out to be the case. Instead, he landed on the 60-day injured list.

It's possible that Duffy will not be able to wear Dodgers threads in a game ever again, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Despite Duffy's unavailability, the Dodgers' pitching should be fine. Los Angeles' starters ERA is No. 1 in the majors, while their relievers ERA is second-best overall. Nevertheless, it would not have hurt the team to have Duffy for the stretch run as an option out of the bullpen, at least, considering that they are still chasing the San Francisco Giants in the NL West.
