Daniel Boyd Fugal­ community leader, entrepreneur, mentor to many and friend to all­ died September 8, 2021, at his home in Pleasant Grove, Utah, surrounded by his loving wife, 4 sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. He was 73. He battled carcinoid cancer and other cancers for 17 years, with his health declining recently.

Born May 30, 1948 the oldest son of 9 children to Boyd LeRoy Fugal and Venice Jacob Fugal, lived most of his life in his hometown of Pleasant Grove, and was a constant leader of family and community. He loved his family and honored his heritage throughout his life. An Eagle Scout at age 14, Dan was active in sports, church activities, took piano, accordion & trombone lessons, playing in the high school band and was passionate about playing and watching football and basketball. He was happiest spending time with family and loved unconditionally.

A graduate of Pleasant Grove High School, he attended the University of Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University focused on business. He and his wife Jill Boren were high school sweethearts and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 28, 1969. Dan joined the Air Force Reserve, and served an LDS mission to the Eastern States, serving primarily in the New York area.

Dan led a lifetime of service and leadership across religious and business realms. He was the youngest elected member (28) of the Alpine School District Board of Education, where he served for nearly a decade and was president and served on the Pleasant Grove City Council. As CEO of Niels Fugal Sons Companies, he was a business leader, partnering with his brother Guy to build one of the largest construction firms in the Intermountain West, and was honored as EY Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001. He also held securities brokerage and insurance licenses.

Paramount was his love of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served faithfully in many callings including Elders quorum President, High Councilman, Bishop, Stake President and Mission President in the Oregon Eugene Mission. Dan’s most cherished calling was husband, father and grandfather.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his eternal companion, Jill; children Brandon (Kristen), Cameron (Danielle), Patrick and Matthew (Katie), 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and his 8 siblings.

Funeral services will be held Friday September 17, 2021 at 12:00 noon in the Northfield Stake Center 105 West 1800 North, Pleasant Grove UT. Family and friends may attend viewings at the stake center Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM and on Friday from 10:00-11:30 AM prior to funeral services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with full military honors.

Dan Fugal was a man of the highest character, and his life is a testament that service is a noble calling.
