On the morning of September 11, 2021, many state leaders expressed their thoughts on the tragic events that took place 20 years ago.
Governor Steve Sisolak was in attendance at this morning's "tolling of the bells" annual ceremony.
He tweeted a series of pictures and a video from the event and released several tweets reflecting on the anniversary.
"While 20 years have passed since this tragic day in American history that forever changed our nation," the governor tweeted.
"We will #NeverForget, and we will never cease to honor the lives of those that perished too early from this Earth – May God bless those souls and the United States of America."
Others who sent out early morning tweets include Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Senator Jacky Rosen, and Congresswoman Dina Titus.
"We must never forget the courage of the many individuals who made a difference," tweeted Masto Saturday morning.
"When I reflect on that day, I think about the heroism of first responders and brave citizens who worked fiercely to save countless lives. Today and always, our nation owes them a debt of gratitude."
Dina Titus shared her thoughts alongside a picture of the Ground Zero memorial.
"20 years ago, our country was attacked. During that horrific act of terror, the lives of nearly 3,000 Americans were taken from us," Senator Rosen tweeted.
"Today, we remember those lost to us on that dark day, we share in the mourning of their families & loved ones, & we strive to honor their memories."
