Lukaku very happy with win, fulfilling ‘childhood dream’ of scoring at Stamford Bridge

It’s taken 17 years and 16 appearances (7 with teams other than Chelsea), but Romelu Lukaku finally has something he’s been dreaming about since he was 11: a goal at Stamford Bridge. And then, just make sure, he added a second, too. Can’t ever be too sure these days!

The brace also gives him three goals in his first three games back at the club, after going scoreless in his first 15 appearances the first time around. It’s all coming up Big Rom, and we’re loving every minute of it!

Making chances count has been a bit of an issue at Chelsea for some time, but Lukaku did what all world class strikers do, and took advantage of the few opportunities he got to change the course of the game.

His first goal was especially masterful, as he collected a glorious pass from Mateo Kovačić, cut inside his defender and finished between the goalkeeper’s legs. That he cut from his strong foot to his weaker foot was perhaps surprising, but as he revealed afterwards, he was just playing his man.

“In Italy, I was playing in a league where I maybe had one or two chances a game, so I had to take them. I’m very happy with the situation I’m in and we keep going.

“[Tuchel] said before the game, when we recover the ball we had to play it forward very quickly. I wasn’t doubting Kova’s quality. It was a great pass. I played with [Axel] Tuanzebe back in the day, he knows I’m left-footed, so I switched to my right.”
