After the Phoenix Suns made a historic run all the way to the NBA Finals, they made sure to lock up arguably their most important player other than Devin Booker, handing Chris Paul a four-year, $120 million extension. While CP3 certainly had options elsewhere, he ultimately decided to stay with the Suns, who heavily benefited from his leadership and versatile offensive abilities.

Paul recently spoke on the whole thought process that went into staying in Phoenix. Via USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt:

“It was an easy decision,” Paul said. “Not only did I love the basketball aspect, I’m close to family (in Los Angeles) and Phoenix is a family, too. I’m excited to be back there.”

Paul spends most of his offseason living in LA, which is only a few hours drive from Phoenix. The veteran guard is also even hungrier for another chance at a championship after taking the Suns to the peak:

“The thing I’m looking forward to now is our approach to the every day,” he said. “You don’t start the season and get to automatically end up at the Finals again. It’s another building process, and I’m excited about going through this experience with these guys because I went as far (in the playoffs) as I’ve ever been. We’ll be on this journey of something new together.”

It will definitely be a tougher road this time around though for the Suns, with the Los Angeles Lakers adding numerous players while the Milwaukee Bucks will be poised to run it back. The Brooklyn Nets are also a serious contender if they can stay healthy this time around.

But, the Suns have just gone through the whole journey and have important experience under their belt as they look to get back to the Finals with Chris Paul and Devin Booker leading the charge.
