This offseason has been a roller coaster ride for Sacramento Kings shooting guard Buddy Hield. He is used to hearing his name involved in NBA trade rumors, as he has been on the block for a while. But, this offseason was different.
Hearing your name mentioned as possibly being on the move is one thing. But to have a trade close enough to be done, you are told to go to another franchise only to have it fall through.
Hield thought that he was going to the Los Angeles Lakers before the 2021 NBA Draft. The deal’s framework was in place as the Kings were trading their sharpshooter to the Lakers in exchange for Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, and the No. 22 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
But, at the last minute, the trade fell through. Los Angeles pivoted, working out a deal with the Washington Wizards for the same package, with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope included for help match salaries.

The Lakers worked hard to try and work out another deal involving him, but nothing came to fruition. As a result, Hield remains with the Kings.
If that wasn’t difficult enough to deal with, Sacramento selected another player in the first round to cut into his playing time. For the second consecutive year, the Kings selected a point guard with their first-round pick. After taking Tyrese Haliburton out of Iowa State last year, the Sacramento Kings selected Davion Mitchell from Baylor.
