Even Ariana Grande watches Gossip Girl, and she was just as surprised as we were to hear her song "Positions" paired with the iconic voice of Kristen Bell as the all-seeing GG.
According to Ari, she was casually watching the HBO Max reboot of the series when she was stunned to hear the opening notes of "Positions" hit about 20 minutes into the episode. She recounted the discovery to Allure, saying that she was so excited that she startled her dog Toulouse. “Excuse me!” Ariana recounted of her reaction. “Does anyone want to warn me when f**king titles are going to come in and Kristen Bell’s voice is going to start saying Gossip Girl stuff and my song’s going to be in the background? Does anyone want to just warn me? Because I had a heart attack."
Ariana shared that she was a big fan of the original series. "You know, like, I was a young girl watching Gossip Girl religiously growing up," she said. We do see some glimpses of Blair Waldorf's style in Ariana's fashion moments, so that tracks. She told Allure that when things like this happen to her, she has an emotional response. “I sort of smile and keep going," she said.
Ariana may hear her songs on TV these days, but soon she'll see herself onscreen too. She'll appear in the upcoming movie Don't Look Up alongside Timothée Chalamet, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, and Leonardo DiCaprio in December, playing a character named Riley Bina. The movie is about two astronomers who discover a comet is on its way to destroy the earth. We don't know much about Ari's character in the film, but we do know that she ditches her signature ponytail for a pair of space buns — and that we can't wait to see her return to acting again!
