Oilers Announce Rookie Camp Roster |

A couple of days ago the Oilers announced their rookie camp which will begin on September 22nd. Here are the players that will be in attendance.

The big names like Holloway, Lavoie, Broberg, Samorukov, and Konovalov get the most praise around these parts but let's take a moment to look at a few more up and comers.
TYLER TULLIO
The small Tullio put up 66 points in 62 games in the OHL in his draft year which likely should have made him a selection somewhere later in the 2nd round but because he weighs only 165lbs he fell to the Oilers in the 5th round. More and more we are seeing small players have an impact in the NHL and Tullio continues to progress nicely. While not a lock for the World Juniors this season, he should at the very least be in the conversation for Team Canada.
XAVIER BOURGOULT
The Oilers drafted Bourgault in the first round in this year's draft. Listed as a centre, Bourgault also plays much of his game on the wing. Heralded as a strong playmaker with a good shot, Bourgault put up 20 goals and 40 points in a shortened 29 game schedule in the Q. There are issues with his game; defensive zone awareness topping the list but that isn't uncommon for any young offensive player. Taking the next step will be the focus for him this season.
JAKE CHIASSON
After only 15 points in 60 games in 19/20, Chiasson improved greatly to 20 points in 23 games last season in the WHL. While 6'2, Chiasson weighs only 165lbs so he clearly needs to fill out more. This will be important for him especially due to where he prefers to set up shop; right in front of the net. A fourth round pick there is no guarantee that this player will become an NHLer but he will be a player to keep one eye on as the WHL season progresses.
MICHAEL KESSELRING
The 6'5 and 209lb defenceman was drafted by the Oilers in 2018 in the 6th round. Kesselring is surprisingly mobile for his size and isn't afraid to shot the puck. He stepped into the AHL last season for 21 games and only put up one goal and three points but he will likely get more opportunities this season on the team. The Oilers need more right shot prospects to pan out and hopefully Kesselring will be one of them
These are just a few names that I will be keeping my eye on as training camp begins on September 22nd. One additional note here is Dylan Holloway may miss the beginning of camp due to questions about the healing process. Holloway is not only a talented prospect but may have a legitimate shot at making the Oilers roster out of camp. We will see how this develops.
