You’d be hard pressed to find a head coach in football more loved and respected than Howard Schnellenberger. Those who loved him the most gathered at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton on Friday night to remember the legendary college football head coach, who founded the FAU football team and became the first head coach in Owls football history.
FAU Owls football players from years gone by joined Schnellenberger’s Miami Hurricanes family at a ”Celebration of Life’’, fittingly held on Howard Schnellenberger Field.
Of course, Schnellenberger also famously brought life to a Hurricanes program that was going no where in the early 80’s, leading the Canes to their first National Championship in 1983.
Schnellenberger also revitalized Louisville’s football program, leading them to beating Alabama 34-7 in the 1991 Fiesta Bowl.
The legend was a proud ambassador for the FAU program until he passed away in May at age 87.
