Subaru launched the 2022 Forester Wilderness for a younger active customer, but the Forester is rated best for seniors again. Check out why it's the best for savvy seniors.

The 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness will likely be a hot model for Subaru of America. The all-new rugged model will target a young demographic who will take the new Forester far off the beaten path. But three recent reports say the Forester compact SUV is also the best new vehicle for buyers in their golden years.

Kelly Blue Book released its Best Cars for Seniors and ranked the 2019-2020 Subaru Forester best used cars for seniors. They rated the Forester number one overall for its fuel economy, top IIHS scores, and KBB's expert rating system.

KBB says the Forester scored best for its standard all-wheel-drive and said, "The Forester is larger on the inside than you might expect. We like its space, "unflappable ride," standard AWD, and relatively excellent mileage."

The Forester has changed little for the 2022 model year, and a recent Consumer Reports ranking says the new Subaru Forester, Outback and Ascent are the best vehicles for savvy seniors.

What makes the Subaru vehicles better than others for an older group of buyers? One of the things seniors are looking for is the ease of entry. The Forester rides 8.7-inches off the ground, making it easier to slide in and out. They don't have to climb up into a larger SUV, and they aren't so low to the ground, making it hard to get back out.

Another recent study by AAA also revealed the 2021 Subaru Forester is the best compact SUV for retirees and older drivers. YourAAADaily said last month the Forester has an accessible entrance and exit, excellent driver visibility, top safety crash scores, easy-to-use climate, and infotainment, and it's affordable.

What are the safety scores for the new Subaru Forester?

The 2021 Subaru Forester earned the highest Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Forester also received a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

What is the fuel mileage of the 2022 Subaru Forester?

The 2022 Subaru Forester comes with standard all-wheel-drive and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine. The EPA fuel mileage estimates are 29 combined mpg and 26/33 city/highway mpg.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Forester?

For the 2022 model change Forester comes in six trim levels; The base Forester starts at $26,320, Premium ($29,320), Sport ($30,890), Limited ($33,000), new Wilderness ($33,945), and Touring ($36,420). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,125).

KBB says older drivers will be most interested in the Forester Limited trim. Forester Limited comes with steering-responsive auto on-off LED headlights, an 8-inch touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity key, power rear liftgate, heated front seats, heated outside mirrors, windshield wiper de-icer, and LED fog lights.

There will be more active seniors, who are young at heart, who will buy the youth-oriented off-road 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness trim level. KBB, Consumer Reports, and AAA say the new Forester is the best vehicle and compact SUV for seniors, older drivers, and retirees.
