The NBA released a video that showed the best dime for each team. Of course Trae Young was the player who gave out this dish for the Atlanta Hawks, he was second in the NBA in assists per game after all. Young is developing into one of the best point guards in the league.

Young is starting to make the right pass more often than not. The game-winner he dished out to Tony Snell was a sign that he is maturing before our eyes. In the past, he would have probably have tried to take the shot and win the game.

Instead, he drove to the hoop, got shut down, and executed a simple, yet effective pass to Tony Snell who had moved to his spot on the perimeter. With the clock counting down, Snell made the bucket and continued the Hawks winning ways.

The Atlanta Hawks need Trae Young to continue to be creative.

This was not the assist the NBA rated as the Hawks’ best. This one saw Young drive to the hoop against the Washington Wizards and he was shut down. This time Young was not able to turn and find someone. Instead, falling out of bounds on the baseline, Young executed a tremendous pass behind the back to the corner where he found Snell again.

Let’s watch the mastery here.

This is the type of heads-up play that opposition teams are struggling to stop. This is the very heart of Young’s game, every single time that he is bringing the ball up on offense, he is thinking about how to put doubt into the mind of the opposition in order to make offense easier.

Whether it is a pull-up 3-ball from the logo, or a behind-the-back pass while falling out of bounds to the perimeter, Young is looking to open up the defense. It is a similar concept to when he penetrates into the lane, the opposing big does not know if he should stop Young or defend his opposing pivot because of how well Young passes to the restricted area.

This is a key to the Hawks’ future. While they have bought in some players who can make their own shot over the past two seasons, they still rely on Young to create in the starting unit. It is a true growth area for Young and the Hawks and it could see them make the next step this season.
