Just because Boston Celtics President of Basketball brought in a slew of new names this past summer in his first offseason in charge, doesn’t mean all of his acquisitions will find time on the floor.

Ime Udoka will be in charge of that, and we don’t quite know what his rotations will look like. Will he use his entire bench or will his rotations be short?

That much isn’t known, but we do know who should be the big-minute getters. That’d be the Jays and Marcus Smart. There’s too much money pouring into those guys to see them seated on the bench.

Al Horford was such a good match that it seems foolhardy to doubt him being an adequate role player once more. He just has to do that in a secondary role, playing 20-24 minutes a game. Robert Williams figures to be around that total as well.

What happens next is anyone’s guess. But there are a slew of bench battles that could squeeze certain guys out of the rotation.

Here are 3 Cs we could see collect DNP-CDs in 2021-22:

Boston Celtics PF/C Grant Williams

The arrival of Juancho Hernangomez is going to affect the power forward position in a big way.

And Grant Williams will be the one that sees the biggest reduction in role assuming Hernangomez’ seniority and higher ceiling win out in the minutes battle.

Williams is sure to see almost no time at the pivot with so many guys ahead of him, and he may not make the cut at the 4 either if Udoka gets comfortable with the Robert Williams-Al Horford 1-2 punch.
