BC Splits the Day; Win Streak Ends at Eight

Boston College volleyball defeats Army, falls in five to host St. John’s.

QUEENS, N.Y. – Boston College volleyball split its day-night doubleheader at the Jack Kaiser Classic; defeating Army 3-1 and falling to host St. John's 3-2. The loss in the nightcap snapped the Eagles' eight-match win streak to start the season.

In the opener against Army, graduate outside hitter Clare Naughton (Atlanta, Ga.) put down the game-winner on match-point for her 16th kill of the match. She finished with her second straight double-double and third of the year; adding 16 digs.

Junior right side Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) hit .462 with 12 kills, a career-high, and no errors. Sophomore outside Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif.) also contributed 12 kills; hitting .412 after the first set.

Sophomore setters Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif.) and Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) paced the Eagles with 22 and 21 assists, respectively. Sophomore libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) picked up a match-high 23 digs.

BC came all the way back from a two sets to none deficit against the Red Storm and force a fifth and deciding-set. The Eagles trailed 8-4 early in the fifth before taking an 11-10 lead, but St. John's finished the night by winning five of the last seven points.

Jensen led BC with 17 kills and Clavenna topped her career-high with 16 as each hit .351 for the match. Naughton notched her third straight double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. St. John's relied heavily on its only true offense weapon, Rachele Rastelli, who netted 31 kills on 59 swings.
