This Bulls-Kings Trade Is Focused On DeMar DeRozan

The Chicago Bulls were one of the more active teams during the NBA offseason. They didn’t have a first-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, as it was part of their deadline deal with the Orlando Magic to acquire All-Star center Nikola Vucevic.

In the second round, the Bulls did have a selection and used it to start bolstering their backcourt, selecting Illinois guard Ayo Dosunmu. That was far from the last guard Chicago acquired this offseason, as they pinpointed point guard as an area of need and upgraded it.

One of the first moves made in free agency was the Bulls landing Lonzo Ball. The two sides agreed to a four-year, $85 million deal, but Ball was a restricted free agent. That meant the New Orleans Pelicans had a chance to match the offer sheet but elected not to. As a result, a sign-and-trade deal was completed.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso was next. Caruso is heading to Chicago after agreeing to a four-year, $37 million deal. He will help bolster the second unit along with Coby White once he returns from injury.

The last big deal the Bulls completed was acquiring DeMar DeRozan. Chicago signed him to a three-year, $85 million deal completed as a sign-and-trade with the San Antonio Spurs. It cost them Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, a future first-round pick, and two future second-round picks.

That is a steep price to pay for someone who it was being reported was willing to join a contending team for a mid-level exception. Now, Billy Donovan will have to figure out how to make all these new pieces fit.

Some will be easier to figure out than others, as Ball will take over the starting point guard spot, and Caruso will be a combo guard off the bench.

Finding a fit for DeRozan is a lot more difficult. If things do not work out as planned, could the Bulls trade him to the Sacramento Kings?

In this hypothetical deal at Bleacher Report, that is exactly what happens. What would this swap between the Kings and Bulls look like? Let’s take a look.
